RAID EXPLAINED
REDUNDANT ARRAY OF INDEPENDENT DISKS
WHAT IS RAID? (REDUNDANT ARRAY OF INDEPENDENT DISKS)
The main concept of RAID is the ability to take multiple drives and have them
virtualised as a single drive. Data is distributed across the drives in one of
several ways called “RAID levels” depending on what level of redundancy and
performance is required. The main purpose of RAID is to protection against data
loss in the event of hard drive failure.
CORTEX RAID 10 EXPLAINED
Cortex RAID 10 works by striping
and mirroring your data across at
least two disks.
Mirroring: writing your data to two or
more disks at the same time. Even if
one disk fails completely, the mirror
preserves the information.
Striping: breaking your data up into
chunks and writing the chunks to
different disks in succession. It
improves performance because the
computer can get data off more than
one disk simultaneously.
CORTEX RAID 5 EXPLAINED
Cortex Raid 5 stripes both the data as well
as the parity information across three or more
than three drives put together to make a fault
tolerant drive. The benet of using a RAID 5
array is that you can easily adjust the stripe
sizes in order to match the application that is
under usage.
This device offers larger capacity, superior
performance and reliability.
